Nordmende Parsifal-Stereo — Chassis 6/675

The Nordmende Parsifal-Stereo is a German table radio from the mid-1960s, built by Norddeutsche Mende-Rundfunk GmbH in Bremen-Hemelingen. This version uses the 6/675 chassis and dates from the 1965/66 model year.

By the mid-1960s, German radio design had reached a very mature stage. FM reception, push-button band selection, built-in loudspeakers and stereo capability were no longer exotic features, but they were still implemented with the care and complexity typical of high-quality German sets of the period. The Parsifal-Stereo represents this late tube-radio era very well: it combines traditional valve technology with semiconductor diodes and a built-in FM stereo decoder.

The set covers long wave, medium wave, short wave and FM. It uses a superheterodyne circuit with 6 tuned AM circuits and 10 FM circuits. The tube line-up consists of ECC85, ECH81, EAF801, ECC808, ECC81, ELL80 and EMM803. The EMM803 tuning indicator gives the set the characteristic visual appeal of late tube radios, while the ELL80 provides the compact stereo output stage.

Despite its relatively modest cabinet size, the Parsifal-Stereo was designed as a proper stereo table receiver. It has two built-in loudspeakers and a wooden cabinet, available in different finishes. The front panel follows the familiar Nordmende style of the period: a large illuminated dial, piano-key controls and a balanced, elegant layout.

Today, the Parsifal-Stereo is an interesting example of the transition period between classic valve receivers and fully transistorized consumer electronics. It still has the warmth, serviceability and mechanical quality of a tube radio, but already includes semiconductor components and stereo decoding technology that point toward the next generation of hi-fi equipment.

Restoration Note

Due to the exceptionally good condition of this radio, no restoration work was necessary. The cabinet was cleaned on the outside, and the chassis was carefully blown out with compressed air to remove dust.

No electrical or mechanical repairs were required. The set is therefore still in its original, unrestored condition.
