Philips Ouvertüre B6A63A – Austrian Tube Radio from 1956

The Philips Ouvertüre B6A63A is an Austrian Philips table radio from 1956. It represents the period when FM reception had become an important feature in domestic radio sets, while long wave, medium wave and short wave were still part of everyday radio use.
With its wide wooden cabinet, piano-key band selector and two-loudspeaker arrangement, the B6A63A was clearly positioned above the simplest household receivers. It was not only intended to receive broadcasts, but also to provide a fuller and more pleasant sound in the living room. The original selling price was 2,890 Austrian Schillings, placing it in the better domestic receiver class of its time.
The circuit is a superheterodyne design with AM and FM intermediate frequencies of 460 kHz and 10.7 MHz. The tube line-up consists of ECC85, EF89, ECH81, EF89, EM81, EABC80, EL84 and EZ80. The set covers broadcast band, long wave, short wave and FM/UKW, and was designed for AC mains operation with selectable mains voltages.
The radio uses two loudspeakers. In this model, one speaker is mounted at an angle and connected through a capacitor as part of the loudspeaker arrangement, while the larger loudspeaker radiates to the side. This gives the set a more spacious sound impression than a small single-speaker radio.
As Acquired / Unrestored Condition
