VOLMET is an aeronautical radio service providing continuous or scheduled meteorological information for aircraft in flight. Broadcasts typically contain aviation weather reports and forecasts for airports within the station's service area.
This stream is received directly from the HF radio spectrum at 8957 kHz. It is not an Internet relay of the original broadcast. Signal strength and intelligibility therefore change naturally as propagation conditions on the HF bands vary.
The signal is received with an SDRplay RSPdx and a magnetic loop antenna. KA9Q-radio provides the USB demodulated audio channel. The audio is encoded as Opus and streamed to the web server in real time.
