WSW Arioso Super 585W

The WSW Arioso Super 585W is an Austrian valve radio from 1957/58, produced by Siemens-Austria / Wiener Schwachstrom Werke (WSW) in Vienna. It belongs to the late 1950s generation of Austrian table radios, combining AM reception with FM/UKW and a more elaborate audio section with three loudspeakers.

With its wooden cabinet, wide dial, push-button controls and typical 1950s front design, the Arioso Super 585W represents the period when radio receivers were still central household objects. Technically, it is a seven-valve superheterodyne receiver with FM reception, a magic eye tuning indicator and a selenium rectifier.

In its present state, this WSW Arioso Super 585W is especially interesting as a historical object. It documents Austrian radio production of the late 1950s and also preserves the traces of age, use and storage that are part of the individual history of this particular set.

Restoration Notes

This example is preserved in unrestored condition, as acquired. No electrical or cosmetic restoration has yet been carried out. The cabinet, chassis, dial, controls and internal components therefore still show the condition in which the set survived. The rear cover is missing.
