Minerva Perfect W - Austrian Tube Radio from the Early 1950s

The Minerva Perfect W is a large Austrian table radio from the early 1950s, built by Minerva-Radio in Vienna. Minerva was one of the well-known Austrian radio manufacturers and had its roots in the company founded by Wilhelm Wohleber in Vienna in 1919. Radio production began in the 1920s, and the Minerva name became closely associated with Austrian domestic radio sets.

The Perfect W belongs to the post-war generation of larger wooden cabinet receivers. It represents the period when FM reception had already become an important feature, while long wave, medium wave and short wave were still part of the normal listening experience. The set is usually listed as the Minerva Perfect 546W, manufactured around 1953/54. It is described as a four-band, eight-tube superheterodyne receiver with FM, AM bands and a walnut wooden cabinet.

Visually, the radio has the typical appearance of a quality Austrian receiver of its time: a wide horizontal dial, a large wooden cabinet, side-positioned controls and a restrained but elegant front design.
